A very beautiful original vintage French opaline glass coolie shade in white with a fused glass trim in clear orange. Probably dating from the 1950s, we have completed it with an antiqued brass gallery and new brass bulb holder. The shape was designed to look like folded fabric - in the early days of electric lighting, plain light shades were covered with pieces of hand-stitched fabric to make them look more decorative. We call this particular style the 'tablecloth'.
We search antiques fairs and shops in France to source these and similar shades. IWe think they would look absolutely beautiful in just about any room, and also in a shop or café.
In excellent condition, with no chips or cracks but please note that minor imperfections are inevitable with items of this age and which have been manufactured in small batches with a lot of hand finishing. Most of these shades have nibbles around the top of the neck where the gallery is fixed, and these are not visible when the fixings are in place.
Measures between 15 and 26cm across x 12.5 cm max height. Bulbholder is bayonet fitting. Electric flex and bulb are not included - this listing is for the shade, the brass gallery and the bulbholder.
