An absolutely gorgeous hand-made and decorated water jug or gargoulette, probably dating from the early to mid 19th century and from the Val de Saône region above Lyon in eastern France. Made entirely by hand, the distinctive floral slipware flourishes, squiggles and stripes also have the added green colour, making it a more unusual find. A large and heavy piece, it measures approx 38cm high and 35cm maximum diameter. It weights over 6kg. There is a crack running across the bottom and up on either side. The crack is old, and not moving, and so the whole pot is still very stable - I hope the photos show it clearly.
