From south-west France, this antique wooden block & pulley was probably used in an old barn. Or, as it came from an area close to the Atlantic Coast, maybe it had a maritime use? Made entirely of solid oak, it probably dates from the end of the 1800s. The metal pin and clasp are hand forged, and the pulley wheel has been hand-turned. Now a gorgeous, tactile piece of antique interior decor, his beautiful old item was fresh from a house clearance and covered in white paint. We have carefully stripped it back to the bare wood, then gently sanded and waxed it to give a smooth finish. There are inactive wormholes, which we have treated as an extra precaution.
Measures 35cm long and 14cm at its widest. The weight is 2.26kg.
