From the late 19th-century, this terracotta two-handled demi-glazed pot was primarily used for making confit, a method of preserving food in the days before fridges. With the distinctive yellow glaze, it would have been hand-made in the southern region of Provence in France. As an everyday household item, this one shows all the signs of wear and tear you'd expect and has most of its gorgeous rich yellow glaze intact. With no cracks, it still holds water. Measures approx 28cm high and 26cm from handle to handle. Weighs 2.84kg.
