A green cold-painted spelter Art Deco statuette on a black marble base, signed Briand, the pseudonym for sculptor Marcel-André Bouraine (1886-1948) and cast from his 1930's original. Also known as Acrobatin, the hoop dancer symbolises grace and balance and many variations on this theme were produced in the 1920s and 30s. Bouraine was a highly regarded sculptor of the Art Deco period, producing small sculptures like this, as well as other decorative art such as lamps and bookends. Sourced in France, this sculpture is in very good condition. Measurements are: 30cm high and 20cm maximum width. The weight is 1.35kg.
