A French copper watering can from the late 19th century, sourced near Bordeaux in the south west of France, deep inside viticulture territory where it was probably used by a winemaker's nurseryman. Made entirely of copper with a strengthening iron band around the base, the can is unusual in having its original rose. Condition is as you see, with some patina, some verdigris and some streaks showing the bright copper underneath. We have decided to leave it exactly as it is, so you can decide whether to encourage further verdigris and patination, or polish it up brightly. The rose is very firmly attached and we have not attempted to pull it off.
