A medium sized antique stoneware jug sourced in the Saintonge region of south-west France, and probably from La Chapelle des Pots, a town famous for its pottery production. This example, with the shape very distinctive of this particular region, probably dates from the second half of the 19th century. In very good condition, it was handmade in a heavy stoneware with a moss-green coloured glaze. Measures approx 21.5cm (8 1/2") high and maximum 19cm (7 1/2") wide. It weighs 1.2kg (2lb 12oz).
