An antique colour lithograph print on paper of a watercolour painting by renowned 19th century animal illustrator Paul Mahler. Originally published in a book called Les Chiens, Le Gibier et Ses Ennemis published by Mimard & Blachon in St Etienne, France in 1907.
This one is of the terrier breed the Dandie-Dinmont. The original tissue interleaf describing the breed and its habits, in French, will be sent along with the print. The paper measures approx 28cm (11") x 19cm (just under 8"), and the print itself approx 23cm (9") x 16cm (just over 6"). Condition is good, with the ageing expected and some slight foxing.
The illustrator Paul Mahler (1964-1923) worked in Paris, and became a well renowned painter of animals, particularly dogs and especially those used in hunting. He became a member of the esteemed Association des Artistes, Peintres, Sculpteurs, Architects, Graveurs et Dessinateurs in 1894.
